JK Cement has entered into a strategic partnership with Billion Electric Mobility to accelerate the electrification of its logistics network by deploying more than 150 heavy-duty electric trucks during the current financial year. The initiative marks a significant step in the company’s broader sustainability strategy, aimed at reducing emissions associated with cement transportation.
The rollout has commenced with a pilot fleet of 20 electric trucks, each with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 55 tonnes, operating from JK Cement’s Muddapur manufacturing facility in Karnataka. These vehicles will transport cement to stockyards across Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa, forming the foundation for a larger-scale transition to electric freight movement.
As part of the collaboration, Billion Electric Mobility will provide an end-to-end electric freight ecosystem, covering vehicle deployment, charging infrastructure, fleet management and route optimisation. The integrated approach is designed to ensure efficient operations while supporting the growing adoption of zero-emission commercial transport.
Charging support for the fleet will be enabled through ChargeZone’s expanding network across major freight corridors in western and southern India. Infrastructure is being strengthened at key locations including Nipani, Satara, Pune, Karad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Hubli and Davanagere to facilitate seamless long-distance electric truck operations.
The partnership highlights the increasing role of electric mobility in industrial logistics, particularly in sectors with high freight demand such as cement manufacturing. By combining heavy-duty electric vehicles with a dedicated charging ecosystem, the initiative is expected to contribute to lower operating emissions while demonstrating the viability of electric freight transport for large-scale industrial supply chains.
